  • Time's Arrow - Identities in Between, Mineral and Semi-Precious Stone Painting
    By Maria Mitsumori
    Located in Tokyo, JP
An original painting made from crushed minerals (natural and synthetic, including semi-precious stones) and crushed oyster shells on Japanese paper, mounted on a wood panel. Because these substances consist of unique chemical and physical properties, every artwork has its own story to tell and embodies a sense of connection to the earth. It has a matt and rich sand-like texture. This painting is a recollection of two incompatible memories that are deeply engraved in the artist's identity. She depicted the floor of Galerie d'Apollon in the Louvre, a place where she used to spend hours every time she get to visit since 12 years old. She covered its floor with Tatami mats, symbolizing her grandfather's house, where she spent her early childhood. The fluorescent line running through the center, sharing light and shadow from left to right, represents a time axis that continues into the future. She attempts to preserve its identity, time, and memory by providing an abstract concept a physical form. This painting is the second of the 'Time's Arrow' series. The title “Time’s arrow” is a concept developed in 1927 by the British astrophysicist Arthur Eddington, positing the one-way direction of time. In mint condition, Certificate of Authenticity included and calligraphy seal in front, hand-signed at the back. Sold unframed and ready to hang (eye bolt and string mounted at the back). • Golden City - 24k Gold and Mineral, Cityscape, Luxurious, Big Painting, Gemstone
    By Maria Mitsumori
    Located in Tokyo, JP
This large painting is Mitsumori's very first maiden work. An original mineral painting, made with 24k gold, crushed minerals (natural and synthetic), oyster shells and gold-coated mica on Japanese paper mounted on a wood panel. Natural colors include precious and semi-precious stones. Because these substances consist of unique chemical and physical properties, every artwork has unique characteristics and a story to tell, with a sense of connection to the earth. It is highly textured with a matt and rich sand-like appearance. What originally inspired her to paint was the cityscapes of Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer is a city in India known as the “golden city” that gleams in gold-like colors at sunset. The city shimmered like a piece of gold jewelry, reminding her of jewelry that retains its shine even after a thousand years. She felt a strong desire to capture them in paintings and set out to do so. Presents the sceneries seen through her eyes in an art form. In mint condition, Certificate of Authenticity included and calligraphy seal in front, hand-signed at the back. Sold unframed and ready to hang (eye bolt and string mounted at the back). • As One - Gold Leaf and Minerals, Astronomy Painting, Stars, Outer Space, Science
    By Maria Mitsumori
    Located in Tokyo, JP
An original mineral painting, made with 3 layers of 24k gold leaves, natural and synthetic minerals, and sea shells (calcium carbonate) on Japanese washi paper mounted on a wood panel. Natural colors include gemstones or precious and semi-precious stones such as azurite (deep ocean blue). Because these substances consist of unique chemical and physical properties, every artwork has unique characteristics and a story to tell, with a sense of connection to the earth. It is highly textured with a matt and rich sand-like appearance. I wanted to let the materials speak as much as the story. Not necessarily in a loud manner, but to communicate the value of authenticity and how they play together as one big piece of jewelry. Beneath all the complex minerals, there are 3 layers of 24k gold leaves covering the entire 80 cm surface. When light passes through various dimensions, hints of gold reveal its presence and brighten the surrounding dark colors in an incredibly mesmeric way. Just like the stars in the sky, you may not see them at times but when they do, they surely brighten up the sky. In mint condition, Certificate of Authenticity included and calligraphy seal in front, hand-signed at the back. Sold unframed and Ready to hang (eye bolt and string mounted at the back).
