Medium: Oil on Canvas Signature: Signed Lower Left Size: 34.00" x 24.00" Maxwell House Coffee, "Home for Christmas..." (1945) For years, Walter Martin Baumhofer painted cover designs for the Pulps, such as Adventure magazine, Street & Smith’s magazines, and Popular Publication’s titles. He developed a bold, dramatic approach for them that characterized his subsequent work. He painted the first series of Doc Savage covers, and depicted a gallery of other western and detective characters. A versatile performer, Baumhofer also illustrated for publications as diverse as The Ladies’ Home Journal, Liberty, Collier’s, Argosy, Esquire, Outdoor Life, Cosmopolitan, True, Woman’s Day, and Sports Afield.
