About the Item
Gingko leaves in deep hues of purple and lavender on delicate brown branches with hints of teal are striking against the pristine white background of this vertical painting in acrylic on Mylar.
Battenfield's works on Mylar require mounting and bracing prior to framing. Price shown is the unframed price. Please inquire with the gallery for mounting and framing costs.
Jackie Battenfield’s meditative painting process begins with the artist’s close attention to the graceful forms of unfolding leaves and blossoms, and to the twisted boughs and branches of trees. The artist painstakingly translates her photographic studies into drawings on large sheets of translucent Mylar, taking care to stay true to the original images. The artist makes hundreds of color studies before arriving at the palette for each painting. When applied to the Mylar, Battenfield’s ink-like pigments reassert themselves, separating and forming unexpected, distinctive abstract, transparent and opaque patterns. The finished painting on Mylar is mounted on a panel that allows light to play behind the pristine painted surface.

The process creates a one-to-one relationship of mark to stitch, the act of each brushstroke serving for the stitch of a needle. Lamb’s embroidery paintings draw patterns from French floral wallpaper of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, while others draw inspiration from vintage embroidery patterns...Category
