Artist Statement
"Fireworks, an aerial celebration of shimmering explosions that burst across the night sky. With each explosion, a magnificent display of shapes and lights appear at the pinnacle in a rainbow of colors, then fall and fade into darkness leaving behind a swirling cloud of smoke. I have found something ethereal and mysterious in them. Each one is unlike the next and their unique journey provides endless variations within this mystical and celebratory theme."

Jennifer Moses
Jennifer attended Virginia Commonwealth University receiving a Bachelor in Fine Arts. After graduating, she moved to New York City where she began her professional career as an abstract painter in a studio just north of Canal Street. She had the opportunity to be immersed in the city’s art scene and worked part-time as an assistant for contemporary artist, Sandi Slone. In 1994, Jennifer relocated to Ojai, California. The transition facilitated a shift in style and subject matter. She was instantly drawn to her new environment and inspired by the charm of Ojai, the majestic California coastline and western landscape. Jennifer was introduced to the paintings of the Early California Impressionists and thus the exploration into landscape painting began. Although mostly self taught in the plein air tradition, she studied privately with CAC Signature Artist, David Gallup and has attended
various workshops with other prominent plein air artists. While Jennifer
draws inspiration from nature and creates compositional studies on location,
her larger work is refined and painted in her Ojai studio using her studies as a
reference. “It is the essence of a place that is at the core of my work. I often find that I am drawn to the intimate aspects of a landscape; a moment in time or a
specific feeling that unfolds when I’m quiet. The process for me is a
celebration of beauty and the interrelatedness of all things. My greatest desire
is to communicate that connection through the visual poetry of painting.”
Moses is a Signature Member of the California Art Club. She is also a
member of the Ojai Studio Artists, a non-profit arts organization, where she
served as president for three years. Her paintings have been exhibited in various galleries and museums including the Pasadena Museum of California Art, Autry Museum of Western Art, USC Fisher Museum of Art, Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, Santa Paula Art Museum, Carnegie Art Museum, Hilbert Museum, USC Pacific Asia Museum, and Carnegie Art Museum. Carlson Reporting Editor, FineArtConnoisseur.com, April, 2014

- "Impending Storm, " Oil paintingBy Sandra PrattLocated in Denver, COSandra Pratt's "Impending Storm" is an original handmade oil painting that depicts an impressionistic rendering of water and land meeting with chaotic grey clouds overhead. Artist Statement: My work is inspired by my emotional response to places I've seen and experienced. In particular, the contrasts of light and dark. I enjoy using a palette knife for the immediate bold statement it offers. I started painting as a young child and studied for a while at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago but ultimately decided to be a self-taught artist, My style of painting is called abstract impressionism. I work Alla Prima, wet into wet, not reworking a picture that has dried. I started using the palette knife to do color charts, then kept using it for immediate effects and fun texture. The challenge is making the whole painting cohesive enough in a single session, which can be a fun challenge working big!. I paint intuitively, and I enjoy painting landscapes best, scenes all people can relate to at a fundamental level, green fields in Ireland, Paris alleys, and little white barns. I'm drawn to old structures, falling down barns, fences, and houses. I love the sense of history, fragility, and secrets they exude. Artists I'm inspired by are Edward Seago, Kyffin Williams, Nicolai Fechin, and Sergei Bogart. These painters have a very particular style and handle of paint manipulation I find fascinating. My color palette has simplified over time. I've experimented with many colors; my basic palette is usually around seven colors plus white. I like creating color harmony, so the focus is on shape, composition, and edges, although colorful paintings have a place in my work. Overall, I intend to show my viewers simplicity in art and create transcendent experiences. My work has been exhibited at the Brattleboro Museum in Vermont, with the Allied Artists of America in NY, and at the A.R. Mitchell Museum and the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art in Colorado. I'm from Chicago, IL, and currently live in the mountains of Colorado with my incredible husband, two kids, cattle dog...Category
