About the Item
Represented by George Billis Gallery. I have never have a plan when I start painting. Instead, my paintings evolve from starts and stops and missteps.
The paintings express an interrelationship of form and pattern that creates energy on the surface; they are abstraction with a pattern. The pattern is system that is caught on each surface. The paintings relate to each other and even effect each other while in the studio but are all worlds unto themselves: a game played out to the edges. The lines are static and unpredictable, and the worn surfaces show marks and errors.
Each painting pulls the viewer closer to a repetitive chant of linear lines and unruly colors. The tranquilizing nature of the slight exotic bleeds through, showing redundant aspects of the battered surfaces.
