About the Item

John CALLOW Picture Size: 26 x 40" (66 x 102cm) Outside Frame Size: 38 x 52" (97 x 132cm) It framed in the original frame chosen by the artist gilded in gold leaf. Free Shipping 1822-1878 He was a marine and landscape painter and was mainly taught by his elder brother, who was already established, artist William Callow. As well as oils he did much watercolour work and in 1855 he was appointed Professor of Drawing in the Royal Military Academy at Addiscombe and 6 years later he took up a similar post at Woolwich. He later retired from this work and concentrated on painting for exhibitions and teaching art. Callow exhibited 352 in the Old Water-Colour Society, 38 in the New Gallery, 7 in the Royal Academy, 9 in the British Institute and 2 in the Royal Society of British Artists.
