Katherine Kean
Liquid Sun Splash landscape impressionistic

About the Item

If you don't like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.۝ - Mark Twain The weather in Hawaii provides a similar effect, or rather than waiting as it changes, a person can experience radiant sunshine and pouring rain simultaneously. This one in a series of "windshield paintings"is painterly, brushy, a little bit textured, and slightly raised, particularly for the drops. Painted on gallery wrapped linen, on 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers. The edges are hand painted, providing a finished look, suitable for framing, or beautiful left as is. A childhood of moving and traveling around the United States has shaped Katherine Kean۪s vision, as have journeys to eastern Africa, Mexico, Scotland, France and painting jaunts all over Kean۪s now native California. Born in West Virginia, moving later to Ohio and New Jersey, but growing up mainly in Massachusetts, she attended Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA in Film, Video and Animation. Long fascinated by the intersection of order and chaos in the natural world, Katherine Kean skillfully uses observation, memory, and interpretation to translate her love of nature۪s kinetic phenomena into paintings that capture the often turbulent emotions within light, weather, and landscapes. Her work has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, including the LACMA Art Rental and Sales Gallery and the Brand Library Art Gallery in Los Angeles, and has been acquired by many private and corporate collections. She has been honored to have her work selected for Bloomingdales in Santa Monica, California, Schiffer۪s 100 Artists of the West Coast II, Paint America۪s Paint the Parks, Manhattan Arts Healing Arts International۪s Celebrate the Healing Power of Art and the National Weather Center 2015 Biennale.

  • Confetti Rain 2. landscape impressionist
    By Katherine Kean
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
Rain on the windshield falls in fat, colorful drops, and rivulets. Painted in layers and textured with thick and thin paint. This one in a series of "windshield paintings" is painterly, brushy, and slightly textured. It is painted on gallery wrapped linen over 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers, with color matched, hand painted edges, wired with finger friendly coated wire and ready for installation. From the artist: An unexpected, but welcome rain, as experienced from a place of comfort. My windshield paintings aim to capture these fleeting and intimate moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise in the midst of natures turbulence. A childhood of moving and traveling around the United States has shaped Katherine Kean's vision, as have journeys to eastern Africa, Mexico, Scotland, France and painting jaunts all over Kean's now native California. • Almond Trees in Spring
    By Achille Laugé
    Located in New Orleans, LA
This Neo-Impressionist landscape by the French artist Achille Laugé captures an orchard in late spring in his celebrated, highly modern style. The work displays a thick impasto thanks to the artist's distinctive technique of applying his paint in quick dabs, a characteristic of his later works. One of the foremost painters of the Post-Impressionist period, Laugé’s works are beloved for his sensitivity to light, shade and tone, and his mastery of medium is clearly on display in Almond Trees...
