2020

About the Item

"Fall Colors" is a contemporary plein air landscape painting in gouache (opaque watercolor) by Idaho artist Aaron Cordell Johnson. The painting depicts a forest with autumn foliage in a ploughed field with mountains in the distance. Painted on location from life, Aaron's paintings use visible brush strokes and textured paint application to create an expressive surface. Aaron Cordell Johnson received his BFA in painting and printmaking from Pacific Northwest College of Art and his MFA from the University of Idaho. He is an assistant professor of painting and drawing at the University of Idaho. He actively participates in regional and national plein air events and exhibitions including "Landscape Today" at the Harrison Center in Indianapolis which featured 100 paintings by 50 contemporary landscape painters, an exhibit at the Grand Central Atelier in New York, and a Plein air exhibit at the Sugarlift Gallery in New York. Aaron is interested in finding an authentic experience through the act of creation. His work involves physical interaction and passion for the subject. The paintings he creates are the result of time, searching for just the right cloud formations, watching the colors, and experiencing what it means to be in an environment. Through these experiences, he uses color, brushstrokes, drawing, and texture to express the lay of the land and its effect on him. Each painting is the culmination of absorbing, listening, feeling and observing his surroundings. This painting has been custom framed in a white oak moulding, double white conservation mats, and low glare/UV blocking glass. Frame Size: 23 1/4 x 24 1/4
