Albert de Meuron was trained under his father, Maximilien de Meuron, then at the Düsseldorf Academy (1841-1844). He then studied in the studio of Charles Gleyre (1845) and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts (1846) in Paris. A history and genre painter, Albert de Meuron also created grandiose landscapes of the Alps. He was President of the Society of Friends of the Arts of Neuchâtel (since 1867) and of the fine arts section of the Swiss commission at the Universal Exhibition in Paris (1878). He was also a member of the Federal Commission of Fine Arts (1888-1892).
