Alex K. Mason
Abstract Landscape Triptych "After" acrylic on three canvases

2023

About the Item

Large Nature Triptych by Alex K. Mason of expressionist landsape, "After" is acrylic on three unframed canvases using reds, greens, blues, and yellows. Painted in 2023, each panel of the triptych is 48" H x 24" W. The total size is 48" H x 72" W (plus the space between the panels). It is the expression of making marks for canvas or paper, which reveals itself to me in the process of the work. I am drawn to the free forms found in nature rather than the geometric and hard edged. I am inspired by patterns found in the natural world and try to reference them as well as create new patterns. Flora, fauna, and color fuel inspiration for my works, but I never have an exact idea of what I will be creating until it is complete. My goal when creating a painting is to make it authentic by concentrating on each color and mark. There is a sense of motion and kinetic energy that comes across from the mark making of the brush strokes and spontaneity of drips. These accidental drips, washes, and splatters give depth, texture, and atmosphere to my compositions, that on a good day, I hope create a kind of beauty.

"Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind XV " is a 40 x 40 inches, original, abstract landscape by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is a gallery wrapped canvas, signed "Lachman" in the lower left. It is part of the artist's series "Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind". The artist puts his thumb upon the pulse of life and records it. In that mystical beat lies the unknown, and he would but make it known. Being both, innovator and spectator, he exists as an intrinsic part of that rhythm. Each painting begins with a premise, and I rarely use the same one twice. It is based on what I see and what I am feeling at that moment. I do not think that painting is about technique. It is about a particular perception of the world around us. The premise creates the periphery of my intent. It is a limitation that gives birth to the creative forces within. - Al Lachman Born in 1936 in the Bronx, NY, Alan Lachman...
