About the Item

Artist: Alex Kalenyuk Work: Original oil painting, handmade artwork, one of a kind Medium: Oil on canvas Year: 2023 Title: In the Field Style: 6" x 8" x 0.8'' inch, (15x20x2 cm) Unframed, Stretched on Wooden Bar, Gallery Wrapped, Ready to Hang. "In the Field" is a captivating oil painting that captures the serene beauty of an autumn landscape. The artist's masterful brushstrokes bring to life a scene that exudes tranquility and nostalgia. The composition is framed by a foreground that showcases a vast field, adorned with vibrant hues of golden and amber. Within this idyllic setting, a group of contented cows can be seen leisurely grazing, their peaceful presence adding a touch of bucolic charm to the scene. As the viewer's gaze traverses beyond the grazing cows, the painting transitions into a mesmerizing vista of a rich, earthy forest. The dense foliage, painted in varying shades of brown, suggests the season's progression, where the leaves have begun to take on the hues of autumn. The interplay of light and shadow creates an enchanting depth within the forest, hinting at hidden paths and secret alcoves waiting to be discovered. The sky, painted in a warm and radiant yellow, serves as a captivating backdrop to the entire composition. Its vibrant coloration beautifully complements the autumnal tones of the landscape, imbuing the painting with a sense of atmospheric harmony. The sky seems to radiate with a gentle, golden glow, casting a soft light upon the field and forest below. Overall, "In the Field" evokes a sense of peaceful solitude, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the serenity of nature. The artist skillfully captures the essence of autumn, with its shifting colors and tranquil ambiance. Through meticulous attention to detail and a carefully chosen palette, the painting becomes a visual symphony of warmth and tranquility, transporting viewers to a world where time seems to slow down, inviting contemplation and reflection. By William Langson Lathrop
    Located in Lambertville, NJ
Signed lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888. There he met and married an English girl, Annie Burt. Upon returning to New York, he tried his hand at etching, making tools from old saw blades...
