A native of Gloucester, Massachusetts, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. John E. Johnston, she began her study of art during a girlhood spent there and in Boston and began also her collection of rare antiques, both of which were life-long interests. She was a pupil of the artist Woodbury and exhibitions of her work have been held in Boston, in Maine, where for many years she has maintained a home at York Cliffs, and in Carmel, where she was an active member of the Carmel Art Association. She moved to Carmel, CA in 1918 and became active in the local art scene. She appears to have divided her time between Boston and the Monterey Peninsula until her death on the latter on Dec. 28, 1943.

- "Solebury Valley"By William Langson LathropLocated in Lambertville, NJSigned lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell.
