Anna Pinkster
Early Morning by the River Wye, Gloucestershire, October, Cotswolds Landscape

2022

About the Item

Early morning by the River Wye, Gloucestershire, October is an original oil painting by Anna Pinkster. It was inspired by time spent sketching on a misty morning waiting for the sun to rise in a beautiful spot by the River Wye between St Briavels in Gloucestershire and Llandogo in Monmouthshire. Anna Pinkster Artist with Wychwood Art. "Throughout my career my work has been inspired by my environment - the people, places and cultures that surround me. Following graduation from West Surrey College of Art in 1994 with a first class degree, I traveled extensively in India, South East Asia and Africa creating figurative work which endeavoured to capture people immersed in their daily lives, offering an insight into the essence of a different culture. Commuters in London and bathers on the beaches of Dorset have also inspired my work but, during the national Covid lockdown, I became fascinated by my local landscape in Somerset. I have since visited Wales and the South Downs, creating work in oils and charcoal, working directly from life then refining ideas in the studio. I am most excited working intuitively, directly from life, whether it be a life model in the studio, a flock of sheep in a field or, my most recent obsession, birds in my garden - I find an intense energy and freedom which, I hope, is evident in my work. I have exhibited regularly in London at the Mall galleries SWA, RP, NEAC and Pastel Society, and in the South West, winning prizes including the Prince of Wales Drawing prize at the Royal Society of Portrait painters open exhibition, the Anthony J Lester Prize and the Bath Society of Artists Prize and People's Choice award and I was elected a member of the Bath Society of Artists in 2018."
