Anthony S. Campbell
'Roseangle Kirk and the Tay Bridge' oil c 1962

1962

About the Item

A fine oil by Scottish artist Anthony S. Campbel. Painted plein air. Very atmospheric, capturing the weather and light effects of the Estuary in misty morning air. Tony Campbell graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee before becoming a teacher and lecturer. He admits that during his teaching career he had little time for his own painting. Preferring to work outside, he works quickly to capture the fleeting nuances of light that create the colour, tone and mood of his work. 'I try to complete a painting within a few short hours on the spot with the finishing touches completed later in the studio. Working this way, I feel I'm able to preserve some spontaneity and freshness in the subject. My larger pieces are usually worked up from sketches and smaller paintings done at the location' His work in the main is of coastal subjects
