"Piazza San Marco after the rain" Oil on canvas 60,5 x 90 cm Signed u.r. Reverse: Label Collezione Monti, Modena eppe Ciardi was born in Venice in 1875, the son of the painter Guglielmo and brother of Emma, who was also a respected artist. He studied with his father at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice from 1896. Beppe completed his studies in 1899 and in the same year took part in the Venice Biennale with the Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte di Venezia, where his works were also exhibited in the following years and were shown in a solo exhibition in 1912. As an author of landscapes characterized by a symbolic interpretation of nature and appreciated by critics, he was awarded the Fumagalli Prize in Milan (1900), a gold medal in Munich (1901) and a silver medal in San Francisco (1904). In the decades that followed, his work was inspired by everyday life in Venice and the landscape around Treviso. He died in 1932 in the family villa in Quinto di Treviso.
