About the Item
Dutch, 1864 – 1932
Cornelis Kuijpers was born on February 20, 1864 in Gorinchem.
He lived and worked in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rijswijk, among others.
He was taught by his father JCE Kuijpers and, in addition to oil paintings, made many drawings and watercolors.
Although he painted many genres, he became most famous for his landscapes.
Typical of his paintings is the rough use of his brush. Always done very effectively, never one brushstroke too many.
He invites the viewer into his landscape, wants him/her to be part of it and to make him/her feel the same sensation of nature as he/she does. This nature for which he felt an overwhelming respect.
Cornelis Kuijpers died on August 29, 1932 in Soest.
