Carol Young, "Saffron Clearing", 36x36 Colorful Barn Landscape Painting

2021

About the Item

This piece, "Saffron Clearing", is a 36x36 oil painting on board by artist Carol Young featuring a vibrant barn in the midst of a yellow golden field and deep blue sky. The barn is a bluish violet with a scarlet red roof. A line of dark green trees are on the horizon. Young's use of complimentary colors make this painting jump out towards the viewer. About the artist: “I've always been an artist. At a young age I painted rocks and sold them for a quarter to my neighbors. When I made my first sale, I was hooked. I continued my passion for drawing and illustration throughout my high school years but after graduating from the College of New Rochelle, NY as a fine art major, I became a Graphic Designer and painted as a hobby. Down the road I evolved my career into a Senior Creative Director, and painted on the side. I realized how much I missed my hands on art experience, and in 2013 I became a full time fine artist (and I still design as well). Growing up I fell in love with the landscape of the North Fork of L.I., NY where my family owned a lovely vintage cottage. I marveled at the combination of the sea and the expansive farmlands. I started to realize the appeal that I had for old things - old barns and cottages particularly. I was intrigued by the way the light and shadow played with their interesting peaks and valleys. I also thought about the families that had lived there and worked on the land in the past. I started to paint them and soon became aware of their vulnerability. They were being knocked down and replaced with larger and newer buildings. It saddened me, and I started a quest to paint them in a contemporary fashion, so even the owner of a modern home could embrace the old architecture in some way. I play with a bold palette that is alive with color, pushing the contrast and brilliance. I also enjoy painting the sea with its ever changing skies and motion. I even have a series of animal paintings that show a bit of whimsy. As long as I am painting, I am happy!”

  • H.M. Saffer II, "Field of Dreams III", Pointillist Landscape Oil Painting
    By H.M. Saffer II
    Located in Saratoga Springs, NY
Landscape painting "Field of Dreams III" 24x30 by artist H.M. Saffer II. Painted in the style of pointillism, a series of tiny painted brushstrokes , this colorful oil painting depicts a vivid red and orange sky over a purple field. A path recedes into the background. About the artist: Born July 18, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, H.M. Saffer II launched his career by exhibiting his art at a public art show at the tender age of six. Upon graduation from Temple University in 1965, he traveled to Paris, France to enroll in graduate economics courses. Concurrently, HM's path took a different twist, as he soon leveraged his musical talent performing with notable French stars Hugues Aufray, Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, and many others. He was later hired by Barclay Records as a producer, and had several hit records in 1968 and 1969. During this period, he was also the chef / owner of two restaurants in Paris, and later a third located in Ibiza, Spain. Remarkably, as engaged as he was, HM never stopped painting and exhibiting his works. Several of his shows - sponsored by his restaurants and music associates - "sold out" and were favorably written up by the press. Before returning to the United States in 1970, he completed selected studies at L'Ecole Des Beaux Arts and exhibited in Paris and Brussels, Belgium. HM continued on with his music career in the United States at Warner Brothers Productions where he co-wrote the international hit song, "Look What They Done To My Song, Ma", recorded by Ray Charles, Melanie and other performers. While at Warner he painted a forty foot mural in their Madison Ave., NY headquarters and exhibited his works in the firm's lobby. In 1972 HM was hired by the dynamic songwriter/producer Bob Crewe as Senior Vice President for the Crewe Group of companies where he worked with the industry's top names including Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Vicki Carr, and Oliver. Later that year, he established HMS Two Music Ltd. and spent his time writing and producing music for films, commercials, recordings and Broadway productions. HM's work in the commercial field is familiar to us all with creations for Pepsi, Mountain Dew...
