About the Item
Josep Castellanas Garrich (Barcelona, 1896 - Majorca, 1980)
Born in Barcelona in 1896, and in 1919 he moved to Mallorca following in the footsteps of Santiago Rusiñol, with whom he had previously exhibited in his hometown. During his life he returned to live in Barcelona, but he also had a long period in Mexico. After the Spanish Civil War, he returned to the island to stay permanently, first in Deià and later in Sóller, places from which he drew numerous themes that he reflected in his work, the same as evidence of his sensitive vision of reality. Finally, he died in Mallorca in 1980.
