Charles Jiao Original Landscape Oil Painting: Houses in the Mountains
About the Item
Charles Jiao grew up in China during the Cultural Revolution, which caused his formal education to be frequently interrupted. To avoid wasting his time, his father had him get tutored from family friends including an artist, who brought him into the art world. After graduating from high school in 1973, he spent two years farming, as mandated by the government, before finding a job as a designer in a department store, thanks to his earlier training in art. After the Cultural Revolution ended in 1976, He was able to study chemistry at Xiamen University, eventually becoming a lecture at a university in his hometown.
In 1986 Jiao left China for the United States for graduate education, where he earned a Master of Science and a PhD in chemistry respectively from University of Minnesota-Duluth and Purdue University. During this period he continued his study of art through private lessons of watercolor, for two years of spare time. A chemist position with a government contract company for Air Force Research Laboratory brought him to Dayton, Ohio, where he continued to paint as a hobby, and began to work in oils.

- Rainy SpringLocated in Cincinnati, OH'Rainy Spring' shows contrasting colors that are often seen on a rainy spring day, with the dark blues and greens sitting in the back and brighter yellows and pinks on the foreground. With the placement of these colors, it moves the viewer's eye down the path to look further into the deep background. The artist's brushstrokes almost give the illusion that it just rained on the landscape and there is an airy feel to it. Pam Folsom...Category

- Les bords de l’Allier, à Pont-du-Château, fin d’après-midi d’étéLocated in Barbizon, FRIn parallel to his studies of architecture, Lebourg takes courses at the school of the Beaux-Arts of Rouen. After a stay of several years in Alger, where he taught drawing, he returned to France and exhibited in the salon from 1878 and then regularly until 1914. He participated in the Impressionists' exhibition in 1879 and became a member of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1894. He was promoted to Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1903 and then to the rank of Officer in 1924. Winter landscapes and waterfront sites had the preference of the artist, for whom values prevail over tones. Lebourg did not divide the tone but fragmented the key to make the color vibrate. In 1916 a major exhibition will be devoted to his work with more than 200 painted works exposed. Museums : Alger – Agen – Aix les Bains...Category
