Nature is in constant flux. A finished painting is is merely a full stop added at a point in time.
Artist Bio: Clare Millen, Artist, Painter To begin a painting is to embark upon a journey into the unknown, the final destination is perceived but rarely in focus before I start. Memory, experience and intuition guide me along a solitary creative path, strewn with twists and turns, to arrive at a place often unexpected, yet always inherently familiar. Inspired by a trilogy of the elements - land, sky and sea - my paintings are abstract visions and amalgamations of memories, moods and feelings. They are nowhere yet everywhere. Places that resonate within us all. I work in layers, building, scraping and scoring surfaces to expose the history of colour and surface I have laid down. I am led by what is revealed and work intuitively until I feel the piece is complete. This process of laying colour down in a chance way is thrilling but also exasperating at times. Many hours and many layers of paint can either fly or die in front of my eyes. I'm often defeated and have to walk away. However when a painting does work it is a deeply satisfying feeling - one that compels me to repeat the process again and again. I have exhibited my work both nationally and internationally and I have been an active member of Cambridge Open Studios for nearly two decades. I currently divide my time between my own studio practice, teaching and lecturing in Cambridge and training other art teachers working overseas for Cambridge University.

- Sandbank, abstract art, landscape art, seascape art, original paintingBy Jon RowlandLocated in Deddington, GBJon Rowland: 'As the tide recedes sometimes it leaves small sand spits. The Scottish coast offers opportunities to make a quick sketch that can be worked on in the studio.' Discover new paintings by Jon Rowland and his abstract expressionism with Wychwood Art. Each work has been carefully selected by Deborah Allan our Chief Art Curator. Wychwood Art have exhibited Jon Rowland in London during a pop-up exhibition of theirs at the Darren Baker Gallery. His paintings have been displayed at the Royal Academy and at the Berthold and Darren Baker Gallery in London. He has also exhibited in group exhibitions at Linacre and Green Colleges, at Swann Gallery in Woodstock, and with Wychwood Art at Battersea Art Fair. He was one of six contemporary artists who took part in an exhibition of views of Blenheim Palace, juxtaposing the original visions with today's, as part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown's birth. Solo exhibitions have been at the Said Business School, Wolfson College in Central Oxford, and most recently at the Sewell Centre Art Gallery and Cornerstone Art Centre in Oxfordshire, and the Boiler Room Gallery in Central Oxford. Through Wychwood Art, he has carried out several large scale commissions for private clients. Jon comments: Painting is a journey. One starts at one place - the blank canvas, and hopefully ends at a resolution. Sometimes one gets lost. My aim in this journey is to create original, contemporary art that is grounded in place. Chance and opportunity are the travelling companions; but the art is to know when the journey is complete. I tend to work in series, with references to locations that are abstracted, reflecting on themes of colour, movement and space. In some themes I use concepts...Category
