    Serene slice of Monterey Bay by Wyoming and California artist Katherine Jean Wipfler (American, B-1955). Thick, confident brushstrokes create a shimmering reflections in the water, contrasted by the pier's strong vertical stance. In some areas, the bright orange under-paint peeks through the upper layers, adding an extra sense of depth and vibrancy. Gilded frame with linen liner is included. Signed in the lower left corner. Inscription on verso states: "Monterey" Painted on location by K. Wipfler. 4-14-87 Image size: 10"H x 8"W. A full-time painter since 1979, she depicts wildlife and figures in landscape and works primarily in oil and outdoors "en plein air" on locations. Following this, she decided to become an artist and moved to Idaho Falls and then to Jackson, Wyoming where she began plein air painting in 1980.
