About the Item
DAVID M MARTIN RSW RGI (1922-2018)
One of Scotland's finest 20th Century still life and landscape painters. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and also trained in textile design, which influenced his painting style. His work was exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, both of whom elected him a member, as well as the Royal Scottish Academy. His work is held in many major collections including the Arts Council of Scotland, the City of Edinburgh Art Collection, Perth Museum and Art Gallery and the Fleming Collection. A major retrospective of his work was held at Perth Museum and Art Gallery in 1999.
