Don Pollack BIOGRAPHY
Don Pollack is a Painter and Adjunct Associate Professor of Visual Communication at theSchool of t he Art Institute of Chicago. His work investigates among other things, the relationship between personal mythologies and representation in painting and how it may simultaneously give reference to a narrative.Working in cross disciplines has influenced his perspectives as projects begin with an epic adventure. Conceptually proceeding from the
premise that all vision is historic and constructed, Pollack’s research starts with the planning of a long distance trek,– such as a 3000 mile journey via bicycle following Lewis and Clark. His work has utilized maps, documents, photography, painting, and installation. This work was routed in a previous investigation into the role of museums in the process of forming collective memory.
Don studied design at the University of Illinois and painting at the Ohio State University where he received his MFA.The state of Illinois has recognized his history based work with a special bicentennial edition of the ‘Order of Abraham Lincoln’ award. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and has shown many solo shows in, Chicago, NewYork, Atlanta, and Canada.

- I Know Everything - Birds Eye View of Chicago Looking East, Oil & AcrylicBy Albert Vidal MorenoLocated in Chicago, ILWhile visiting Chicago in the summer of 2019, Vidal was afforded a stunning view of the city from various vantage points. This bird's eye view is looking east into the city with a peak of Lake Michigan in the background and captures a portion of Chicago's iconic skyline. The loose, abstract brush strokes and warm color palette come together in this remarkable urban landscape painting. The bottom of the painting is marked with Vidal's signature - a series of numbers. The artist has carried the painting over the edges, thus allowing it to remain unframed. Alternate framing options can be discussed with the gallery. - Echo - Monochromatic Scene, Ladder and Doors in Muted Gray, Original Oil, FramedBy John SeubertLocated in Chicago, ILA ladder and several doors seemingly float in air while a full moon illuminates this surreal scene. "Echo" is painted in muted shades of grey bringing a melancholy to the overall aesthetic. The original oil painting is framed in a repurposed frame that the artist has distressed and painted. It measures 24h x 30w inches. John Seubert Echo, 2023 oil on canvas 16h x 20w in 40.64h x 50.80w cm JSE077 John Seubert b. 1958, Chicago, IL In the early Nineties, John Seubert was living in a former hotel in a high-rise building on St. James Place in Chicago. The apartment was tiny, as hotel rooms tend to be, and clad with paper-thin walls allowing sound to pass from one apartment to the other. At the time, John’s artwork consisted of pounding copper sheets into tables which was a noisy endeavor to say the least. Following several noise complaints from the neighbors, John had a dream that he was living in a ramshackle house but with plenty of room to work and no attached neighbors. The following day after lunching at the McDonalds in Lincoln Park, John wandered the neighborhood a came upon a shabby, falling-down old Victorian house. He located the real estate agent, put in an offer, and weeks later was pushing a shopping cart full of his belongings to his new home. This 144-year-old Painted Lady provided a blank canvas for this inimitable artist. For many years the house remained so empty that John was able to ride his Japanese fold up bike throughout the 1st floor. “Some people want to have sex...Category

- Cabana A - Abstracted Urban Landscape of Tower at Milano Centrale Train StationBy Albert Vidal MorenoLocated in Chicago, ILFrom its opening in 1931, Milano Centrale station was watched and worked by an army of more than 130 people in 7 different signal towers, 2 of which were of the bridge type across tracks. One of those towers is seen here in Albert Vidal's aptly titled work "Cabina A" - the closest of the switching towers to the main station. - Garden In Luca, White ChairLocated in Westport, CT"My life as a painter began in the late 1950s when abstraction was “The only game in town”. I followed and progressed through gesture, organic and finally, geometric non-objective painting. The radical move for me was to discover that the real world of landscape lurked behind all that past work. My childhood in the mountains of Pennsylvania pervaded my “way of seeing” and I wanted to investigate and celebrate the infinite variety of tone, color and composition that I found around me. Sky, the structure of trees, mist and water appeared to fill a hunger to look again and again. There was mystery and danger lurking behind the beauty, and my aim was to try to avoid the cliché and explore the infinite structure of the visual landscape. Now I use my camera as a sketchbook and search for images that seem to offer odd structure and “mystery”. I shoot multiple points of view, cull, crop, and mostly discard. The surviving photographs become the catalyst for the paintings and the process is always a mediation between memory and the small image pinned to my easel...Category
