Fernando Soler
Sarasota Boat Yard, Oil Painting

2018

About the Item

Artist Comments
Dry docked sailboats line a dirt road in a Sarasota boat yard. A stunning sunset elevates the scene, bathing the ships' hulls in pink light and granting them a certain nobility. Part of Fernando's signature series of nautical scenes capturing the watercraft, wildlife and landscape of his native Florida. He regularly travels, making sketches, taking notes and shooting photographs to later reference in his studio. The result is detailed, intimate paintings that radiate the stunning light and tropical breezes of the Sunshine State.

About the Artist
Artist Fernando Soler illuminates the Florida coast with vibrant seascapes. Being immersed in fine arts, as well as having been a charter captain, Soler has always been drawn to the ocean. Any location that inspires him turns into a sketch, is taken to his studio, and is brought to life with acrylic and oil on canvas. "My paintings reflect nautical themes, and nature in general, with the impressionist color palette in mind." Fernando enjoys listening to jazz from the sixties and seventies to inspire his creative process. When he is not painting, you can find him golfing, visiting fine restaurants and pubs in the city of New Orleans, or playing jazz on his trumpet. Fernando's creations have been showcased in both New York and Florida. He is an alumnus of Ringling College of Art and Design.

  • Little London Street, Oil Painting
    By Hadley Northrop
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
Inspired by a photograph, artist Hadley Northrop beautifully captures the enduring charm of a little street that remains unchanged over the years. "There is something irresistible about lit-up windows at night," shares Hadley. Set against the cobalt blue sky, the lights ranging from cream to persimmon cast a warm and inviting glow to the scene. "I used to live in England and loved the ordinary old buildings."

    About the Artist
Hadley’s subject matter is inspired by her San Francisco surroundings, particularly the city at night. Her glowing depictions of light sources are reminiscent of a blurred photograph or a bleary-eyed nighttime stroll. Hadley developed her love for art from her mother, a watercolorist, and continued to pursue her artistic career at a collegiate level and beyond. She now works out of a small studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. Hadley goes into her studio seven days a week with her Boston terrier puppy.
