About the Item
Frame size 62x83 cm.
Poch Romeu was one of the most relevant and renowned landscape painters who originated in the second half of the 20th century. His technique was oil on canvas and the artist's favorite subjects were those of the island of Menorca, where he lived since 1964, landscapes such as piers, lagoons, estates, coves, llaüts and the typical windows of the island.
In his canvases the color white predominates, in all its versions, the water of the sea and the captivating light of the island's sunsets.
The Catalan painter is considered one of the most skilled and influential contemporary landscapers. He studied at the Llotja School of Arts and Crafts in Barcelona, at the Sant Lluc Artistic Circle and expanded his knowledge of set design at the Institut del Teatre, where he met his wife, also a painter Josefina Ripoll.
He was a disciple of Ferrer Guash, Mestres Cabanes or Ramón Bas. His works are framed within the Catalan post impressionism where the landscapes of the island of Menorca predominate, mostly themes of marinas and Menorcan estates.
He had been based in Binibeca Vell, in San Luis, Menorca, since the 1970s, where he spent long periods near the sea enjoying his two passions: painting and the company of his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was the winner of numerous painting awards and leaves more than 1,500 oil paintings distributed in private collections in Spain, France, Germany, Argentina, Belgium, the United States, Egypt, the Netherlands, India, Mexico and Switzerland. The artist exhibited regularly at the Comas Gallery (Barcelona), Sokoa (Madrid), El Clautre (Gerona), Kroma (Mahón), among others.

- "Solebury Valley"By William Langson LathropLocated in Lambertville, NJSigned lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888.
