About the Item

Gorgeous plein air landscape of California East Bay Hills titled "Waning Light" by Francis Woodcock (1906 - 1983), circa 1960s. Signed lower right and on verso. Unframed. Image size: 26.75"H x 35.10"W. Born in Oakland, CA on July 15, 1906. During his teens Woodcock spent summers in the Mother Lode area where he began drawing and painting. Following graduation from high school, he studied at the CCAC under Martinez, Nahl, and Logan. He worked as a commercial artist throughout his career with studios in San Francisco and Oakland. In his leisure he painted many watercolors of the San Francisco Bay area coast and mountains, and also lectured and demonstrated watercolor techniques to various art groups. His work won many awards at exhibitions in northern California. His last years were spent in San Rafael, CA where he died on May 4, 1983. Member: Oakland Art Assoc. (pres.); SWA (vice-pres.); Hayward Art Assoc. (pres.); West Coast Watercolor Society (pres.).
