About the Item

Provencal animated scene from Georges Capon _ According to Wikipedia, Georges Capon (7 April 1890 – 19 November 1980) was a French painter, engraver, lithographer and poster artist. His recognition as a major poster artist comes essentially from the four years of the First World War when he carried out this activity in collaboration with Georges Dorival. Georges Capon was later a permanent artist at the Galerie Berthe Weill and friend of famous Raoul Dufy, Marcel Gromaire, Maurice Savin, Francis Smith and André Dunoyer de Segonzac. We can see in his painting the influence of the first two. Located in the first School of Paris, he nevertheless claims his roots by founding in 1925, with his painter friends Pierre Hodé and Jacques Wolf, the Group of Norman Painters. Georges Capon stayed in Spain between 1927 and 1929, bringing back numerous watercolors (his views of villages in the province of Huelva, in particular El Rocío and San Juan del Puerto which were presented at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1931) and canvases (Andalusian Women) which, with his Bar Scenes, are among his favorite subjects. Structural Analysis : It is a Provencal animated scene with a farmer with his cow. First, a diagonal is crossing the painting along the Provencal house roof. Behind this diagonal, there is a roman church and a blue sky. Below this diagonal, the farmer with his cow are crossing the scene. More detail composed the painting such as a French Flag, Color analysis: High texture composition, brush strokes and knife marks brings light to the painting. A system of complementary colors created harmony between blue sky and orange, red-ish (vermillion) of the roof. Colors are vivids, There is no discoloration Technique: oil on canvas 33x41 / 13x16.2 inch with Golden frame: 42,5x51cm / 16.7x 20 inch Thickness: 3.2cm It is signed _ "Capon" On the front of the artwork. On the top back of the painting, it is written 1925 on the stretcher. Condition : Very good condition - few small cracks visible in the painting. One light dent on the canvas on the right part of the painting (near the house). Provenance: Private collection - France
