1892

About the Item

Landscape from 1892 Typical farm with thatched roof from Brittany from Henri Catrou (1855-1938). He was a "plein air" painter from Barbizon school, who the most famous painters were Camille Corot, Theodore Rousseau, Constant and Jean François Millet. Structural Analysis : On the foreground, there is a clearing space. In the background, there are a forest and several thatched roof houses. A river is crossing the painting. Finally, a large space of the painting is dedicated to the blue cerulean sky. it's a geometrical painting, composed with triangular shapes (see image). More precisely, in the green triangular shape is a flat and light space. In the red triangular shape, there is an elevation of the landscape where a tree occupies the size of the composition. The second house looks like "suspending " in the air. Finally, the blue shape is more a dark space with a lot of density. Color analysis: Blue color of the sky and the river contrasts with the complementary orange color of the trees. Technique: oil on canvas 46x55 cm / 18.1x21.7 inch with golden frame: 52.5x61.5cm / 20.7x 24.2 inch Thickness: 4cm It is signed Catrou.
