Oil Painting on Linen --Ten Broeck Mansion

2010

About the Item

This is an oil painting on linen featuring a historic house from the 1790s in Albany, NY during the Patroon period. Ten Broeck Mansion is a house-museum, and the painting showcases the columns constructed in Greek-Revival style when the house was renovated in 1827. The work has vibrant blue-greens, which is brought out by the brick red of the building. The painting is sold in a beautiful gilded frame and the artist has signed the front. Gary Shankman is a landscape and still life painter who has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe, and has an award winning record. Most summers he teaches at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. He has held the rank of full professor in painting at the Sage Colleges, NY, where he has taught since 1986. Shankman earned an MFA at American University; he maintains a studio in Albany, NY.
