About the Item

Ian Hargreaves' "Venice-Early Risers III" is an exquisite oil painting that captures the serene beauty of Venice at dawn. The canvas size is a generous 80 x 120 cm, allowing for a grand presentation of the city's iconic architecture and tranquil waters. The painting is imbued with a sense of peace and quiet anticipation as the city awakens to a new day. The sky is a masterful display of color and light, with the rising sun casting a golden glow that reflects off the scattered clouds and infuses the scene with warmth. Below, the waters of the canal are rendered with a subtle shimmer, hinting at the gentle movements of the morning tide. Boats glide softly through the water, their presence adding to the narrative of a city coming to life. Dominating the horizon is the grand silhouette of Santa Maria della Salute, its majestic dome standing as a testament to Venice's historical grandeur. The buildings, painted in soft hues, show the gentle wear of time, and their windows seem to hold countless stories of the lives within. The painting is signed by the artist and is presented as ready for display. It can be found for sale at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea and is also available for purchase online. This piece promises to be a conversation starter, offering a burst of creative energy to any space it inhabits. It is not merely a depiction of a city; it is an invitation to experience the quiet majesty of Venice as it greets the day.

Signed lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell.
