About the Item
This painting was created in preparation for Grenning Gallery's second Russian-American Painting Alliance Exhibition in October 2018. Organized by Top Grenning artist Ben Fenske, Rybakova was one of four Russian artists brought to the States to paint plein-air in Stonington Maine, and Sag Harbor, New York in Autumn 2016. Rybakova returned to the States in 2018 to paint in preparation for the second exhibition from the RAPA.
Irina Rybakova (b. 1962 in Vyshny Volochok) is a famous Russian master of landscape. The image of the Russian village and the village worker are her dearest subjects. Her art is appreciated in museums and collections both in Russia and abroad.
Worked as part of the artistic group Academica dacha in Vyshny Volochek, the oldest and well-known creative base of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation. In 1991 she entered Kostroma (a historic city) department of Artists Union in Russia. Promotes the contemporary realistic school in art in mass media.
Image of the Russian village and the village worker are her most dear subjects and does not like landscapes without humans.
The humanity, fed on pop-art and conceptual art, feels monstrous moral and spiritual emptiness.

- Changing TidesBy Maryann LucasLocated in Sag Harbor, NYAn oil painting of the wetlands of Sag Harbor. Hues of greens, blues, whites and purples, make up this almost abstract landscape composition. Painted from life, at Noyac bay. Painting dimensions: 36 x 24 inches Framed dimensions: 40 x 28 inches Maryann Lucas lives and works in Sag Harbor. She is primarily self-taught but has also received instruction and support from wonderful and generous members of the East End artistic community. Working exclusively in oils, Lucas sets out almost daily to create plein aire landscapes and seascapes. In her studio, she works directly from life and captures the beauty of natural light as it transforms ordinary objects into visual delights. Lucas wants her work to celebrate all that is well with this world and brilliant in this life, despite its pockets of darkness. For me, she says, I know I am in the Presence of something beautiful, when it steals my breath, silences my mind, pushes out everything else and draws me in. I trust That. I use That to guide my hands as I arrange a still life or scan a landscape to determine where to set down my easel. Ultimately, That is what drives me to paint. Becoming evermore skilled as an oil painter is another of Lucas goals. To that end she remains teachable, finding it refreshing and vital for her own growth to paint with others. She has studied with favorite artists including Michael Klein...Category

- Stand ByBy Gay Summer RickLocated in Santa Monica, CADepicts the terminal view from LAX. Sparsely populated though replete with objects and evidence of the built environment, Gay Summer Rick creates iconic urban and coastal land and cityscape paintings that evoke emotion and a sense of place. She creates scenes that are at once dreamlike and familiar. You may have been there; you are there. Revealing an unexpected beauty in commonplace elements within the urban landscape, Gay Summer’s style is a melding of impressionism and color-field painting describing the quiet vibration of life where cities meet the sea. Applying oil paint to canvas using only palette knives, Gay Summer Rick creates images through a series of interacting, melded layers. The paint is treated architectonically; it is engineered, built into layers, carved, scraped, accumulated, and almost sculpted, but never removed, never discarded. In part to avoid material waste and the use of toxic solvents for reasons of environmentalism, she finds this almost mnemonic accrual of paint a reflection of her experiences in the places she depicts. Growing up in New York surrounded by artists, Gay Summer Rick began her arts education early in life. She went on to formally study art and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in New York at the School of Art and Design, Alfred University, where she drew, painted and sculpted images on clay forms and vessels. After receiving a Masters degree in Business Administration, she continued her art training in Los Angeles in painting, which became the primary focus of her art practice. A resident of Southern California for over 25 years, the artist maintains her studio in Malibu. Gay Summer Rick regularly exhibits in California and Hawaii, and has shown in New York, Europe, and Japan. Her paintings have been featured in solo gallery exhibitions and museum group exhibitions including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Rental & Sales Gallery; and in international and national group exhibitions where she has received numerous awards and honors. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, California Art Club, Malibu Art...Category
