"View from the Balcony" is a captivating oil painting that beautifully captures a serene urban landscape. The artwork portrays a scene from a high-rise building, where the viewer stands on a balcony and gazes out onto a breathtaking panorama. In the foreground of the painting, the observer's eyes are drawn to the architectural marvels of high-rise buildings. These structures rise prominently, showcasing their distinctive features. The viewer can see the rooftops of the buildings, which are depicted in a rich and striking gray-black hue, providing a stark contrast against the rest of the composition. The walls of the houses are painted in warm shades of brown, infusing the scene with a sense of earthiness and warmth. The interplay of light and shadows on these structures creates a visual depth, lending a realistic touch to the artwork. Dotting the courtyard below are lush green trees, offering a refreshing respite from the urban surroundings. Their vibrant leaves sway gently in the breeze, creating a harmonious blend of natural and man-made elements within the painting. The meticulous brushwork brings out the intricate details of each tree, contributing to the overall realism and inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the scene. Above the cityscape, the sky stretches out in a vivid shade of blue. Its expanse seems endless, evoking a feeling of openness and tranquility. The artist skillfully captures the serene atmosphere of a clear day, conveying a sense of calm and serenity. "View from the Balcony" is a testament to the artist's mastery of the oil painting medium. Through meticulous brushstrokes, attention to detail, and a keen eye for capturing light and color, the artwork transports the viewer to a moment of quiet contemplation. It invites them to imagine standing on that very balcony, taking in the urban beauty, and finding solace in the simplicity of the scene.

- "Solebury Valley"By William Langson LathropLocated in Lambertville, NJSigned lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888. There he met and married an English girl, Annie Burt. Upon returning to New York, he tried his hand at etching, making tools from old saw blades...Category
