Judy Reynolds
Fog Lifting (Small Landscape Oil Painting of Olana, Gold Frame)

2018

About the Item

This small, horizontal oil on canvas en plein air landscape painting was painted by Hudson Valley based artist, Judy Reynolds. The composition features a peaceful landscape as the fog lifts in the early morning over Olana in the Hudson Valley. With a delicate palette of yellow, blue, grey, white, and brown the artist transports the viewer to an autumn scene. The brushwork is smooth as there is little texture built upon the canvas. The 12 x 24 inch canvas is complimented with a contemporary, gold frame, which measures 14x26 inches. Judy Reynolds is represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery based in Hudson, NY. Artist Statement: Primarily self-taught, I’ve created landscapes and still-life paintings in either oil or pastel medium for over 30 years. As a native of the Hudson Valley, most of my work is centered upon the Hudson River and surrounding mountains, fields, and marshes, but I’m also inspired by the dreamy marshlands in Maine. My favorite seasons to capture on canvas are late fall and early spring filled with sunsets, storm endings and foggy marshes, rich with the changing colors of the seasons.

acrylic on paper mounted on board 35 x 35 inches framed Romantic (yet modern) Hudson River oil landscape painting of rolling, hilly farmland with trees in the foreground with a luminous blue sky in the background. Palmer's realistic technique captures the many textures of the natural world, from meticulously rendered trees to the clouds that hover gently overhead. The painting floats in a black-painted wood frame with a wire across the back for instant, professional-quality hanging. About the artist: In 1987, Leigh Palmer moved with his family from suburban Duxbury, Massachusetts, to Tivoli, New York, a quiet town on the Hudson River, north of New York City. His subject matter shifted to the sprawling hills and countryside of the Hudson Valley. “I wanted to respond to the new landscape I was seeing, to catch something of the feeling I had just before dark,” says Palmer. “I took a lot of photographs, but I was happier with the paintings I created from memory.” Leigh Palmer has been represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY for over 25 years.
