About the Item
A fading sunflower stands tall in the foreground of this fall landscape by Julie Himel.
The Toronto artist, a devoted environmentalist is known for her colourful abstract paintings of the natural world. This acrylic and oil captures a single wilting sunflower –a field, trees and a graying sky behind it. The palette is subdued—soft yellow, gray, dark green except for the lingering bright yellow and green of the sunflower. ‘Hallow’ traditionally means to render sacred or holy.

Julie Himel completed a BFA at York University with additional studies at the Toronto School of Art and Langara College in Vancouver. Himel has been painting professionally for more than 25 years. Her award-winning paintings can be found in private, corporate and public collections.
