Biography: Kaufmann Karl ( Carl ) was born in 1843 in Neuplachowitz, Austrian Silesia. He was an Austrian painter of landscapes and architecture.
He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Kaufmann Karl travelled and painted in Norway, Holland, Germany (Franconia, Danzig, Königsberg) and Italy (Naples, Rome, Venice). From 1900 Karl Kaufmann constantly lived in Vienna.
He often signed his works using pseudonyms: Byon, B. Lambert, C.Charpentier, Charles Marchand, E. Leutner, H. Carnier, W. Carnier, F. Gilbert, O. Halm, Joseph Holmstedt, R. Merkner, M. Heger, Hobart, L. van Howe, van Hove, R. Jäger, Laarsen, Lundberg, F. Marchant, J. Marchant, C. Poul, F. Rodek, J. Rollin, Taupiac, L. Voigt, R. Benda.
He died on April 27 in 1905 in Vienna. Today, his paintings can be found in private collections worldwide. His landscapes including views of Venice and fjords are loved by collectors.

He was a Belgian impressionist painter of landscapes, marines, harbour scenes, architectures, interiors, city and canal views, portraits and figures. He was also a watercolourist. Gilsoul studied at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts with the famed master teachers and artists François Courtens (1854 – 1895) and Louis Artan (1837 – 1890). In the same year, King Leopold II commissioned several compositions for his yacht “Alberta” and knighted him to the Order of King of the Belgians. The painter stayed from 1911 in Paris, where he often painted the Versailles region, also worked and lived for some time in Brittany. He had several exhibitions in France.
