About the Item

Oil on wood panel Kim Yeon Soo expresses the memories of the scenery she encountered by chance and the subtle emotions she felt from it through dynamic brush strokes. Kim captures the space she passed through in her past on canvas, but focuses on landscapes that look different depending on the subtle emotions of the moment rather than depicting specific shapes. Like a faded photograph, she captures the fleeting moment of the passing landscape, which is as realistic as a photograph, but omits detailed description. Although Kim draws the scenery passing through the car window, the light on the surface of the lake, and the reeds swaying in the wind, she captures a realistic landscape that goes beyond the representation of the shape by blurring the shape. In Kim Yeon Soo's landscape, the wrinkles of water created by the wind and the color of the water surface that changes with the color of the sky are alive. The texture of the surface of the water, made up of several layers of brushstrokes, flows in waves. Through Kim's unique painterly method, which seems to flow through the screen and the color that seems to spread over the water, she expresses realistic landscapes subjectively and crosses the boundary between figurative and non-figurative. Kim Yeon-soo, who majored in oriental painting at Sungkyunkwan University and Western painting at Munich University of Art and Design in Germany, is praised for her unique painting style as 'ink painting with oil painting'. The abstract expressionism of the West and the Eastern ink painting, where the powerful brush strokes are alive, contain both the aesthetics of the East and the West. Kim Yeon Soo received a Master's degree in Oriental Painting from Sungkyunkwan University and its graduate school, and a Master's degree in Western Painting from Munich University of Art and Design, Germany. In 2016, she was awarded the Debütantenpreis by the City of Munich. In 2017, Kim held her solo exhibition with the support of the Munich City Cultural Foundation. Kim has had a number of solo exhibitions in Seoul and Germany, and in 2007 she won the Grand Prize at the Na Hye-Seok Art Competition.
