Charming mid century landscape with Cecil Brunner roses, larkspur and foxglove titled "The Friendly Gate" by Lillian Mae Grooms Huebner (American, 1892-1976), circa 1950. Condition: Good; minor edge wear consistent with age/use. Painted on reverse of masonite board with pink ground/gesso peeking through adding more depth and texture. Unframed. Image size: 10.38"H x 13.44"W. Lillian Mae Grooms Huebner was born in Ottumwa, IA on Feb. 7, 1892. She studied at the Cummings Art School in Des Moines before moving to California. After settling in Santa Cruz in 1929, she became active in the local art scene and later studied there with Claude Buck. Working in oil, watercolor, and pastel, she produced still lifes, portraits and flower studies. Lillian was the wife of artist Walt Huebner. Mrs. Huebner died in Santa Cruz on March 13, 1976. Member: Society of Western Artists; Santa Cruz Art League. Exhibit: Calif. Statewide (Santa Cruz), 1945.

    Serene slice of Monterey Bay by Wyoming and California artist Katherine Jean Wipfler (American, B-1955). Thick, confident brushstrokes create a shimmering reflections in the water, contrasted by the pier's strong vertical stance.
