Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, traveled in the great southwest throughout his life. Pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the style of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of the picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, bewitching valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to raise with a vital contrast.
From 1890, Louis-Alexandre Cabié criss-crossed the banks of the Vézère in all weathers and in different seasons. It was in the commune of Les Eyzies in the Dordogne that he spent a large part of his time, and where he married his second wife in 1894. Several hundred works have been created on the banks of this river, which are for the majority not located today. This charming format in a beautiful 19th century canal setting was produced in the middle of summer on the right bank of the Vézère, illustrating a dry islet in the foreground which has now disappeared, and presenting in the background, particularly on the right, a famous rocks overlooking the road called "route du Buisson", for the town of Buisson-de-Cadouin.
