About the Item
Kyoto VIII Landscape is a unique painting by contemporary artist Lumi Mizutani. The painting is made with gold leaves on Japanese cardboard, it is sold framed. Dimensions of the painting are 12 x 13.6 cm cm (4.7 × 5.4 in), dimensions of the framed artworks are 17,3 x 18,8 cm (6.7 x 7 in). The artwork is signed, sold framed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The artist sublimates these locations through her paintings, changing the times and seasons in each of her multiple representations. Nature and trees are highly valued by the artist, as evidenced by the cherry and plum blossoms, pines, and weeping willows depicted in her works. In this piece, the berries are the only subjects with their bright red colour standing out from the white background. The background was created by the artist using black (burnt) silver leaf, which she later covered with white to bring out the colour while maintaining a textured relief.
Lumi Mizutani pays homage to Japan and its wonderful landscapes especially those at Higashiyama-ku in Kyoto and Ueno in Tokyo. The artist places a lot of emphasis on nature and trees in her works of art.
Lumi Mizutani works on the alchemy between different elements she uses: paper, ink and water. Through the magic play of the materials, Lumi invites the viewer to enter the world of her artworks full of emotion. The artist juggles with the codes by using traditional techniques, on the one hand, and permanently reinventing with her own techniques, on the other.

Lumi Mizutani
Painter and lithographer, Lumi Mizutani draws her inspiration from traditional Chinese and Japanese painting techniques. Her ink drawings and her paintings extend this tradition, and, through constant experimentation, carry her towards new horizons. For a few years now Lumi Mizutani’s work has revolved around the duality between abstract and figurative, black and colour, the spontaneity of the gesture (the ink painting) and the patient composition work (the painting with pigment). Thanks to these antagonisms she finds the necessary and complementary resources to express herself. “I felt the desire to introduce colors, especially Japanese color pigments, familiar to my childhood. Japanese painting thus entered my artistic expression and my life. While respecting the ancestral techniques and codes, I strive to create a personal and contemporary footprint that challenges the viewer by the emotion it arouses.“

- Dawn of a New Day, Moody Landscape Painting, Dartmoor Sky, Abstract Oil PaintingBy Sophie BergerLocated in Deddington, GBA gold-leaf landscape painting by Sophie Berger. This original oil painting on canvas board has the depth and moodiness of a Dartmoor sky as well as the vivid sunshine hiding beneath the clouds. This is captured by the iridescent glory of the gold leaf. When the viewer is moving around the room the reflection on the gold leaf changes the whole painting as it glows and reflects. Based on the ever changing skies in Devon where Sophie lives and works. New original artwork by artist, Sophie Berger is available with Wychwood Art in their gallery and online. Sophie Berger's recent work has been greatly influenced by her move to Devon and a new found love of the Dartmoor. She often sketches on the north moors and in Skaigh woods, taking in the mood of the sky, rolling hills and streams or concentrating on the intricate twisted branches and roots of the bracken. Sophie Berger's next stage is to recapture these sketches using oil paint when back at the studio in Kigbeare, thereby creating a strong connection between her work and the landscape. The changeable, moody landscapes...Category
