Michael Wedge
Getaway, Oil Painting

2021

About the Item

Artist Comments
"Figures move through a surreal landscape occupied by elements from the city and the countryside," explains artist Michael Wedge. Michael creates a curious juxtaposition of everyday city street life and sprawling nature. People move about as if through normal traffic, with a yellow taxi's tires submerged in tall dry grass.

About the Artist
Michael Wedge works in a variety of mediums: sculpture, painting, mixed media and more. He oftentimes starts with a mental image and creates digital collages, which become the basis for his paintings. A lot of his work references themes from his personal life, such as the experience of living in a city versus in the countryside. If his art seems mysterious, it;s because he enjoys making complex works. "I am attracted to images or moments that seem to have something subtle or hidden under the surface," he explains. When he;s not making art, he teaches it at an elementary school.

  • Nowhere to Go but Up, Oil Painting
    By Diane Flick
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
"This painting celebrates the joy and the art of the frolic, the fanciful, and the free!" says artist Diane Flick. Loosely inspired by Mary Poppins with a nod to her in the title, Diane explores her playful imagination by drawing an expansive landscape with random and happy imagery conceived in pure delight. Having just given birth to her second child when beginning this piece, Diane spent that summer enjoying the new addition to her family, rolling down imaginary hills with childlike enthusiasm, wrapping herself in the sweetness of new motherhood again, and painting.

    About the Artist
Diane Flick is a Bay Area artist who paints quirky portraits of robots with a playful color palette and masterful realism. Each of Diane’s robots expresses its own humanlike and idiosyncratic personality. From an early age, she had a fascination with inanimate objects and often imagined what they would be like with human characteristics. Her portfolio explores the human experience through non-human subjects.

  • A Quiet Country Home
    By Sharon France
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
I live on an old farmstead in the Midwest where I paint quiet, country scenes from my imagination. These contemporary folk art landscapes are created simply from the heart. I want to capture the feeling of peace and serenity that I love about the country. This painting was inspired from old country houses I have seen over the years on rural back roads. I set the house in a simple, slightly abstracted golden field with a blue sky filled with wispy clouds. This piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. The work comes ready to hang.

    About the Artist
Sharon France has many fond childhood memories of visits to her grandparents; remote Midwestern farm. She now lives on her own farmstead with her family where she paints the beauty around her. Sharon found inspiration in the work of Hudson River School Artists, Minimalists, Tonalists and Realists. When she;s not painting, she loves to hike. She currently lives in Illinois. Fun fact: her homestead includes a number of pet birds like heritage turkeys, chickens, ducks and tiny finches.
