About the Item
Netherlands, 1819-1893
Vertin was born in The Hague. He received his first lessons from JHA Breckenheimer.
Awarded in 1835, and became a student of the 'Hague Academy of Visual Arts' (1839-1840) with BJ van Hove.
He was a friend of the painter Charles Rochussen and SL Verveer, who decorated some of his winter scenes.
Vertin was a precise painter, with great attention to the small picturesque details.
Although he was a 19th-century painter, his work follows the tradition of 17th-century Dutch artists.
Its color is warm and pleasant.
His paintings are part of the collections of, among others, the following museums:
– Rijksmuseum Amsterdam,
– Rijksprentenkabinet Amsterdam,
– Kröller-Müller museum in Otterlo,
– Centraal Museum in Utrecht.
