Philip Wilson Steer: 1860-1942. Very well listed British painter with auction results over a million dollars. He was described by other artists and critics of the time as the greatest British landscape painter since Constable and Turner. This fresh to the market gem is a tonalist masterpiece. It is titled on a label on the back and states it was painted in 1895. It is oil on canvas measuring 29 1/2 inches wide by 24 /1/2 high. It looks to have an older relining. The fabulous period frame measures 39 inches by 34 inches. This painting is listed in the definitive book on Steer by D.S. MacColl; See photo 7.
