Primo Dolzan
Primo Dolzan, Landscape with parish church

1934

About the Item

Primo Dolzan is an Italian painter born in Tezze Sul Brenta in Veneto. Painter of landscapes and still lifes. Exhibited at the Salon of Artists in Paris between 1933 and 1935. The painting proposed here was made for the famous French Parisian singer, Jean Lumière. The French singer in 1934, he enjoyed enormous success with the romance of Paul Delmet and Charles Fallot, La petite église, and won the Grand Prix du disque. He then pursued a brilliant career as a charming singer in France and, after the Second World War, in many foreign countries (Europe, North and South America, the Middle and Near East). In particular, he was the first to perform the French version of the song from the 1946 Disney animated feature film Pinocchio: When You Wish upon a Star. Long considered to have the «best radio voice», Jean Lumière left the stage in 1960 to become a singing teacher. His pupils include Marcel Amont, Gloria Lasso, Cora Vaucaire, Diane Dufresne, Mireille Mathieu. "Landscape with parish church" by Primo Dolzen dated 1934 is the painter’s masterpiece and represents a tribute to the song "La petit église" sung in 1934 by Jean Lumier, a song that was his debut in the music world.
