About the Item

his lovely British Impressionist 19th century coastal landscape oil painting is by noted artist Robert Finlay McIntyre. Painted circa 1880 it is a view along the beach from part way down the cliffs towards Cromer, Norfolk. One can clearly see the tower of Saint Peter and Saint Paul and the pier in the distance at the end of the beach. In the foreground is the coastal flora and fauna and a couple of donkeys. Various figures stroll along the beach with the waves rolling in. The buildings of Cromer come down to the sea with a blustery sky above. The brushwork and heavy impasto are superb. This is a really lovely 19th century coastal landscape oil painting and an excellent example of McIntyre's work. Signed lower left. Provenance. Norfolk estate. Condition. Oil on canvas, image size 22 inches by 12 inches, in good condition. Frame. Housed in a gilt frame, 29 inches by 19 inches, in good condition. Robert Finlay McIntyre (1846-1906) was a London based artist who exhibited at The Royal Academy, The New England Art Club and The Goupil Group. His paintings are delicate and often painted in an impressionistic manner.
