Ruth Burden
Seaside Town Impressionist - Mid 20th Century Watercolor by Ruth Burden

1951

About the Item

Ruth Burden’s (1925 - 1911) work captures the essence of her subject matter in a bold yet slightly quirky style. Her subjects were the things most familiar to her – people, places and plants. Born in Worcester, she studied at Birmingham College of Art and then Bath Academy where she was taught by William Scott, Peter Lanyon and Terry Frost. In the 1970s she returned to Worcester to paint full time, often travelling to Wales for inspiration. She exhibited widely at the New English Art Club, the Royal West of England Academy and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. A solo show was held at Duncan Campbell Contemporary Art in 2000. This piece was created using watercolour in a wooden frame under glass.
