About the Item
A peaceful outdoor scene with a grassy field with lavender, blue and purple flowers beneath a tree with dark green leaves, beautifully capturing the idyllic feel of a field of wildflowers in late June. Signed, dated and titled on verso.
The paintings of Thomas Sarrantonio seek to mediate between realms of external perception and internal reflection. They present themselves as meditations on nature and self. Choosing humble, often overlooked subject matter, such as the overgrown grasses at the edge of a field, he attempts to translate the dynamic processes of Nature into the stasis of physical matter on a painted surface. Small works are produced directly from Nature while large paintings are studio productions that utilize memory, experience, imagination and conceptual ideas to negotiate the terrain of contemporary painting. The paintings are offered to the viewer as templates to provoke active participation in the process of seeing and quiet contemplation of the act of consciousness.
Thomas Sarrantonio studied Painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia where his teachers included Wil Barnet and Sidney Goodman. He also holds degrees in Biology and English. His paintings have been exhibited widely and he is the recipient of numerous honors including a Pollock-Krasner Award and a Visiting Artist Residency in Normandy, France. He lives and works in Rosendale, New York.

- Hot Air, Horizontal Pink, Yellow Abstract Mountain Landscape Hot Air BalloonsBy Shane McAdamsLocated in Kent, CTIn this horizontal landscape painting on panel, a sense of wonderment and whimsy is conveyed in McAdams' blending of fantasy and realism. The artist's unique ballpoint ink process creates striations of bright pink, blue, and yellow in vertical stripes across the background. Hot air balloons float through a colorful striped sky, while layers of resin suggest depth within the surface. A vast mountain range is depicted in oil along the bottom of the composition. Signed, dated and titled on verso. McAdams’ work is about landscape in the broadest sense. The artist grew up in the desert southwest...Category

- MuskokanBy Robert MarchessaultLocated in Montreal, QuebecMy painting is an inquiry. I make images as a way of responding to experiences that are important to me. Experiences that help me to understand why I’m in this world often happens when I am outside in large open spaces. Painted images act as a tool. I respond to the spaces my art suggests. That response is usually non-verbal. I am interested in the experience of non-duality that “getting lost” in big spaces can sometimes produce for me. The paintings have gone through a range of artistic treatments with the recent years seeing a focus on space, light, textures, atmosphere and distance. My landscape paintings are made from memory, not from on-site drawings or photographs. I use memory as a filtering agent to remove non-essential visual elements. When a work is successful, it must have a sense of poetry. There is nothing “new...Category

- "Obliteration" Oil and Alkyd Painting on Wood Panels, Yellow, Red, OrangeBy Grace Graupe-PillardLocated in New York, NYGrace Graupe-Pillard has concentrated on portraiture since her early charcoal drawings which she exhibited at The Drawing Center, NYC in 1981. Her work, which has been exhibited at notable institutions such as MOMA PS1 and galleries including Cheim & Read Gallery (NY) and Carl Hammer Gallery (Chicago), has evolved from over the years from pastels to large-scale oil paintings and installations of people who she describes as “having not been integrated into mainstream society.” Her more recent paintings, inspired by selfies and iPhone photographs, attempt to convey the vitality and diversity of 21st century contemporary culture while capturing the ineffable moments in our lives. “The sensuality and radiant beauty of youth and ethnic diversity are depicted in my choice of subjects, as well as the ravages of time which are imprinted on our being. All stages of life are filled with humanity that both elevates and dissipates the spirit.” Her work has been written about in The NY Times, Art News, The Village Voice, The Star-Ledger, Newsday, Flash Art...Category
