About the Item
Fishing Village Morning is an original oil painting on linen canvas by established artist Tim McGuire.
To stand before one of Tim McGuire‘s works is to be immersed in a world of colorful energy and vibrant joy. Common objects sing with lively brushstrokes and unexpected colors. One can feel the artist's delight in his surroundings: a walk in the wintry woods, a book with a comforting pot of tea, the azure sea with its fishing boats and shacks. scenes of domestic life shimmer and sparkle under his brush.
Comments likening his work to Van Gogh are common, but McGuire has a style all his own. Having trained in traditional, academic painting at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, he stayed on and taught for 10 years. When he left Italy it wasn’t to return to his native New York, but to Nova Scotia, to a small fishing village where he married, started a family, and set up a studio.
McGuire found his muse in catches of fish and fishing shacks, in the woods, and in family life. There is a childlike wonder and enthusiasm for life that permeates his work, taking us back to the magic of childhood when all things were possible and filled with color.

- "Solebury Valley"By William Langson LathropLocated in Lambertville, NJSigned lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle. His efforts to break through in the New York art scene seemed futile, so he scraped enough money together to travel to Europe with Henry Snell in1888. There he met and married an English girl, Annie Burt. Upon returning to New York, he tried his hand at etching, making tools from old saw blades...Category
