About the Item
The painting titled "Florentine Gardens" depicts a vividly detailed Italian landscape. In the foreground, a cat sits on a platform, directly facing the viewer from behind a lemon tree heavy with ripe lemons. Beyond the lemon tree, various shades of green foliage speckle the hillside, creating a richly layered landscape. These trees stretch towards the back of the canvas, guiding the viewer's gaze further into the scene, where several grey-white houses are scattered across the hillside. Tom Mabon's adept use of colour successfully captures the tranquil and leisurely atmosphere of the Italian countryside.
Tom Mabon (b. 1956) graduated from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. His paintings, drawings and hand-printed lithographs are a combination of actual views with added details, remembered and drawn over many years. His paintings include evocative renditions of farmland and pasture through the seasons with carefully constructed compositions and a superb mastery of colour and tone.
