Cornwall Harbour View, circa 1930 by Sir Walter Westley Russell CVO RA (1867-1949) Circa 1930 view of a Cornish harbour, oil on board by Sir Walter Westley Russell. Excellent and rare example of the painters work taking a high persecutive of the small Cornish harbour. Signed bottom right, presented in a good frame with detail inscription verso. Measurements: 17" x 14" framed approx BIOGRAPHY Born 31 May 1867, in Forest Gate (Essex); died 16 April 1949, in London. Painter, engraver (etching), illustrator. Figures, portraits, interiors, landscapes, architectural views. Walter Westley Russell trained under Frederick Brown at Westminster School of Art. He taught at Slade School of Fine Art, London from 1895 to 1927. He was elected a Royal Academician in 1926 and served as Keeper of the Royal Academy from 1927 to 1942. He was knighted in 1935. He was notably appreciated as a portraitist, and also made etchings. He contributed to the following publications: Illustrated London News, Daily Chronicle, The Graphic and Pall Mall Magazine. During World War II, he undertook several commissions for the War Artists Advisory Committee. He exhibited in London from 1891. He appeared at the exhibitions at the Royal Academy, London, the Royal Hibernian Academy and the New English Art Club, and in Liverpool in 1909.
