About the Item
This very detailed piece of art is part of my series : "Precious bodies"and is in my publsihed book , the new owner of this work will recieve the book.
At first glance it appears an impossible quest: to find women of a certain age who do not hesitate to show their aging bodies.
I did not consider it impossible myself, even though sometimes it felt like it, judging by so many comments around me. "Surely no woman still wants to show her old naked body?" And "Seeing your grandma naked, who could be looking forward to that?"
Despite these comments some special ladies who were prepared to go on this adventure did cross my path. With some, it was almost like love at first sight, I would immediately approach them as I noticed them. This is how it was with the flamboyant Anne Detry, whom I met at an opening and immediately saw the image of a living painting in front of me. Anne is well into her 70’s, she studies languages, flirts and dresses in an adventurous style.
Other women I met and learned to appreciate through the painting classes I teach. This created such a bond of trust and mutual appreciation that for me it was a small step to ask them to model for me. Women whom at first glance gave the impression to be rather introverted became an inspiration for my paintings.
With my paintings I can express these different experiences and highlight various aspects of aging. Some models were prepared to be interviewed and expressed their views on how they deal with aging, how they experienced it to be portrayed as aged, and what it does to them. Does the image correspond with how they experience their body? How did they deal with criticism and comments from people around them?

- Challenging ConversationsLocated in Ibadan, Oyo"Challenging Conversation" by the talented artist Abdullateef Salaudeen is a compelling exploration of vulnerability, self-discovery, and the complexities of communication. The artwork features a young man in the act of pulling off his shirt, an action that transcends the physical realm and serves as a metaphor for the emotional layers being unveiled. Salaudeen's keen attention to detail is evident in the nuanced expression on the young man's face. The furrowed brow and intense gaze suggest a struggle, not only with the fabric of his shirt but also with internal conflicts and emotions. The artist masterfully captures the raw, unfiltered moments of personal challenge, inviting viewers to empathize with the subject's journey. The choice of title, "Challenging Conversation," adds depth to the narrative, suggesting that the act of removing the shirt symbolizes a dialogue within oneself—a confrontation with inner thoughts, doubts, or perhaps an attempt to shed societal expectations. The artist prompts viewers to contemplate the unseen narratives and untold stories that lie beneath the surface. Salaudeen's use of color and composition further enhances the emotional impact of the artwork. Subtle tones and careful shades of grey create a realistic yet painterly atmosphere, adding a layer of intimacy to the scene. The dynamic composition captures the transient nature of the moment, freezing the young man's struggle in time and inviting viewers to engage with the narrative at their own pace. "Challenging Conversation" resonates as a poignant exploration of the universal human experience, where moments of self-reflection and personal growth are often accompanied by internal dialogues that require courage and resilience. Abdullateef Salaudeen's work serves as a powerful reminder of the beauty found in vulnerability and the strength that emerges from confronting one's challenges.
